Wristwatch care tips – this is how your watch works better and longer

Even quality watches may not survive the ravages of time. Like cars also wristwatches have to be maintained. This is why we would like to provide you with some useful care tips:

businessman

  • Protect your watch from hits and concussions (playing golf can shake the balance wheel).
  • Keep your watch preferably at a dust-free place (watch case or showcase). Keep valuable watches in a safe.
  • Keep your watch away from magnetic fields. Magnetized watches will lose their accuracy. Magnetic fields could be generated by refrigerators and speakers.
  • Protect your watch form temperature shocks. Heat and sun could damage your watch. Don’t take your watch with you to the sauna. The lubricating oil could fluidize.
  • Salt water damages your watch. Rinse your watch thoroughly after swimming in the ocean.
  • When your watch ran out of battery try to change batteries as soon as possible. Batteries can run out and and can damage the clockwork with its acid.
  • Don’t make date-corrections between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. A mechanical conflict could occur in the clockwork and this could damage the wheel work. Alter the date only forward.
  • The waterproofness should be checked at least once a year. A harsh hit on the crown, variations in temperature or dust could have damaged the gaskets.
  • Clean your watch with a soft fabric cloth or a dry toothbrush. Watches with a high waterproofness (>3bar) can be cleaned under running water. But take off the leather wristband before. Leather wristbands should not come in contact with water. Detergents could leave stains and cause color changes. Metal wristbands and watch cases can be polished with a cotton cloth.
  • Small scratches in the glass can be removed with polishing paste. In case the watch is damaged on the inside go to the watch maker. A watch is to be opened by an expert only.
  • Leather wristbands do not last as long as metal wristbands. Due to the moisture absorption a leather wristband loses its stability very fast and can crack. Leather wristbands last approximately one year.
  • For mechanical watches a revision, i.e. a professional cleaning of the clockwork should be conducted every three to five years.

Testreport – Mathis Montabon La Magnifique black Zirkonia

MM-13-schwarz-zirkoniaFor a long time we have a look at the La Magnifique by Mathis Montabon. Noble and luxury is it. We are happy, that we can at last test this piece of jewelry by Mathis Montabon:

First impression:
The La Magnifique reached us beautiful packaged in a pretty looking watchbox with guarantee cards. The watch is very nice and is in nature almost more beautiful as on the photos.

Design and manufacture:
This graceful model is absolute succesfully designed by the swiss watch manufacturer. The number dial leaves a significant and nobel impression. It is beset with three real diamonds. On the lunette twinkle zirconia stones about the bet. The beautiful manufactured strap consists of a well done mix of stainless steel and robust ceramic. The watch feels comfortable on the arm. The stainless steel case has witch 43 mm (without crown) a comfortable size. It appears assiduously manufactured. You can’t find any scraches or something similar on our test watch.

Technic:
The heart of this model is the automatic clock unit „Mathis Montabon caliber M-1100“ with 22 stones. In daily use we couldn’t find any output deviations.

Suitability for daily use:
For comfort in daily use cares the water resistance of 5 bar. So it can also be worn when hand washing or taking a shower. Altough you are tempting to wear the watch only to special causes, it endures – thanks to the saphire glass and robust stainless steel/ceramic-mix – all daily situations. Because the indicator is added with luminous material, you also can read the time easily in less light.

There are different colours variations with black or white with rosegold and silver. Also variations without circonia stones on the lunette are available. We are pleased about the „little black“ by Mathis Montabon. Design and technic convinced us from the beginning. A designerpiece, which also endures our everyday test. We are excited.

From the Greek Mythology everybody knows Aphrodite, the goddess of beauty, desire and love. Doubtlessly the Aphrodite from André Belfort is a very beautiful watch. And we can feel a sudden desire to order this watch and to test it. But what we don’t know yet is whether we are going to love the watch after our tests. But let’s find out:

After only a couple of days the „beauty“ from André Belfort arrives. The watch is packed thoroughly in a precious box with guarantee card and manual. The watch looks terrific! Beautifully and graceful. We are awaiting eagerly to put on the watch for the first time. With its ceramic bracelet the watch feels comfortably on the wrist.  The weight and the watch case diameter of 38 mm gives her a very nice attendance.

Workmanship and design
Also at a second glance we cannot find any processing errors, scratches or the like. The top-quality materials were processed carefully. The design is convincing. It looks very noble and precious but doesn’t seem fussy or flashy at all. Have we already mentioned that only top-quality materials were used for this watch? – Stainless steel, ceramic and …. happy scream…. diamonds. Four diamonds embellishes the dial of the Aphrodite.

Movement and features
The beating heart of André Belfort´s Aphrodite is the automatic movement Myiota with 21 stones which works behind scratch proof sapphire glass. During our tests we did not notice any noteworthy gait deviation. The handling of  the watch is easy. The Aphrodite is water-resistant to 50 meter. That means you can leave the watch on while washing your hands or taking a shower.

Résumé:
The Aphrodite lives up to it’s name. We fell in love with this watch from the very first moment. Who also wants to fall in love with the Aphrodite has to be quick. The watch is limited to 500.

Investment luxury watch: What should investors know

After the economic crisis and the consequent fear of inflation, many investors are now focusing on new investment opportunities, such as gold, real estate and luxury watches. In insider-circles luxury watches are considered to be an investment with a high yield prospects.

Alfredo Paramico, a banker from Milan, founded the first watch investment company in 2010. Its share-index grew in the first half of 2012 by 18.2 percent. In comparison, the S + P stock index only grew by 11.2 percent within the same period! That means a special luxury watch can increase its value significantly within a few years – regardless of the economic situation.

What should investors know:

No one can say for sure which increase of value a luxury watch will show over the time.
Some models win particularly on value because celebrities are wearing them in public. The watch should definitely be a limited edition and should be undamaged. Individual designs and exceptional features are additionally increasing the value. Also a high quality finishing like Diamond-Like-Carbon-Coating can increases the value. Investors should therefore not only look for specific brands but also for refined luxury watches.

Collector watches – this is what matters:

1. Certificate of Authenticity

2. Limited Edition

3. Mechanical and independently-produced movement

4. No scratches or damages

5. Regular maintenance

Riko Kona – Kailua Chrono: Silicone can be glamorous!

Can silicone be glamorous? I asked myself before I ordered the Kailua Chrono from Riko Kona. A silicone chronograph that looks kind of upscale. I’m a glamour girl and I don’t wanna devalue my hand picked evening outfits with a silicone chronograph. I was sceptical – but I wanted to find out.

Packaging:

After a couple of days I received the package with my new Kailua Chrono from Riko Kona. The chronograph itself comes in a transparent plastic box with a hexagonal shape. Looks funky. I like it!

Quality and Design:

I cannot find any scratches or signs of poor workmanship. The watch looks really sturdy. The wristband is soft and feels comfortably. I like the gold parts. They harmonize so well with the rest of the watch. The design is indeed glamorous – not like the rest of the silicone watches out there. Definitely more upscale.

My conclusion:

From this day on I kind of like silicone watches. But still – not every silicone watch is the perfect companion for me. Only my new Kailua Chrono from Riko Kona is allowed to party with me all night long! It goes perfectly with my evening outfits!
