The André Belfort Le Maître is a classic Dress Watch

For everyone who wears mostly casual watches with a sporty attitude the purchase of a classic Dress Watch is probably not on top of the list when it comes to must-haves. But there are recurring events in everyone’s life – accompanied by a certain dress code – where the only option is to wear a decent Dress Watch ore none at all. A. Lange & Söhne, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Piaget, Rolex and other manufacturers have several impeccable pieces for this kind of occasions in their collections and each would be an excellent choice. But does a lover of casual watches want to spend a lot of money on a piece that is only in his collection for rare events? Maybe not.
That’s why we introduce a new, completely Swiss made timepiece today that goes nicely with a fancy suit while not being incredible expensive: The André Belfort Le Maître.

Andre_Belfort_Le_Maitre_3The André Belfort Le Maître is a rather simple wristwatch that comes in a variety of different options. From very classy with a white dial and a stainless steel case, completed by a black leather strap up to a black dial combined with a PVD-coated gold case and a matching bracelet.
The dials are dominated by big roman numerals, the three hands are long, slender and come in a classic design. Besides that every dial shows a beautiful weaving pattern. The Le Maître features hours, minutes and seconds as well as a date window at 3 o’clock and a sapphire crystal.

The stainless steel case is round and the lugs are rounded too. That complements the look of the watch and assures that it sits perfectly on the wrist. With a diameter of 42 mm and a height of 11 mm the Le Maître comes in a reasonable and comfortable size. The watch is not too small for the male wrist while being understated.
The cases of all watches are water-resistant up to 10 atm.

Andre_Belfort_Le_Maitre_2 The André Belfort Le Maître is powered by a Sellita SW200-1. The Swiss made automatic calibre has proven itself over and over again. It is one of the most widely used movements in a variety of watches from different manufacturers. It is known for its reliability and dependability, working powerful and precise. The sapphire crystal case back makes sure the calibre can be observed while working.

We think that one can’t go wrong with any of these watches. With six different versions everyone should find itself a suitable piece. And prices ranging from 2.600€ to 3.000€ for Swiss made automatic watches are reasonable.

The look of the dial is dominated by two different sets of cutouts. The two in the middle allow a glimpse of the movement which lies behind. The two cut-outs at 3 and 9 o’clock provide the date function, supported by a blue indicator.
hindenberg_air_lancer_1The Air Lancer features indexes as well as big Arabic numerals at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock. The legibility of this watch is pretty good, thanks to the big hands. They are filled with lume to provide a great legibility even under critical lighting conditions.

Inside this watch works an automatic calibre. The Sellita SW200-1 is a Swiss made movement which is known to be a reliable, precise and highly dependable workhorse. It features hours, minutes, seconds and a date display. Furthermore, it comes with a power reserve of 38 hours.

The handsome look of this wristwatch is completed by a leather strap which comes with contrasting stitches in white.
Hindenberg has currently four different versions of the Air Lancer available; three feature a stainless steel case, one comes with a black PVD coating. The latter also features a partly black dial and a black strap. The partly black dial is also available in combination with a stainless steel case. Bulgari Diagono Magnesium: A New Twist On A Classic

Bulgari presents with the Diagono a sports watch that is in a league of its own. The whole collection is technical and sophisticated and readily adopts an urban, cosmopolitan attitude. Its versatile nature stems from its inspiration rooted in ancient history – in Ancient Greek to be exact. The name Diagono comes from the word agôn, a classic term expressing competition and efficiency demonstrated in compliance with the rules of sportsmanship, in an inherently elegant matter.
The symbol of Myron’s Discobolus – the Discus Thrower – sets the tone for the Bulgari Diagono watches. The Discus Thrower is the best-known work by Myron of Eleutherae, who earned a major place in the history of art and became famous for both his inventiveness and boldness.
The design of the new Diagono Magnesium is inspired by the balance of grace, strength, power and agility in Myron’s works. And of course the watches pay tribute to the precision of Swiss watchmaking and Italian creative brilliance.

Back in 1998 the Diagono was one of the very first watches to use materials such as aluminium, which caused a major upheaval in the design world. With the age of titanium came a fresh boldness, a new wager and further success. Last year, Bulgari introduced a whole new technological dimension with the use of magnesium and the combination of three technical materials.
The Bulgari Diagono Magnesium is not short on style: The watch is resolutely contemporary and confidently asserting both its sportiness and its sophistication. The Diagono brings style to every occasion, every circumstance and every situation.

The magnesium case is very light and is coated with motorlac which protects the case and at the same time creates a granulated texture and colourful new reflective effects. The bezel is made from ceramic, a light and scratch-resistant material.
It comes with a diameter of 42.5 mm,  in a lacquered red, blue, grey or black version. Every one of them is water resistant up to 100 m. The dials come in matching colours and they feature three subdials: A 12-hour-counter on 6 o’clock, a 30-minute-counter on 9 o’clock, and a small second on six a clock. Bulgari also found place for a small date window at 4.30.

The Bulgari Diagono Magnesium Chronograph is powered by a mechanical self-winding movement. The calibre B130 works at 4 Hz and provides a 42-hour power reserve.
The watch comes with a vulcanised rubber strap.

Go All-In With The Mr. Jones King & Queen Watches

Mr. Jones King & QueenMr. Jones is known to design really unusual watches for both, men and women and the King and Queen are no exception.
These watches are two halves of a pair of watches based on the classic playing card characters of the King and Queen of Hearts. The watches feature hands of cards to depict the minutes while the hours are shown at the royal breast in form of a „jumping hour“.

So, how do you read the time exactly? The minutes are indicated by hands of cards, every 10 minutes is marked by a different hand: Ace – 0 minutes past, 10 – 10 minutes past, 2 – 20 minutes past, 3 times 10 – half past, Ace and 4 – 40 minutes past, Ace and 5 – 50 minutes past. There is also a grey marker on the dial (like a shadow of the playing cards) to allow you to read the times between the hands of cards. By observing how far the leading or trailing edge of the cards is from the marker shape, the minutes can be judged. Here’s a chart to clarify that a little:

How to read the minutesThe use of the playing cards symbolises the transitory nature of fortune – lucky streaks, while always welcome, are only as short lived as those runs of bad luck. The watch is a gentle reminder to keep your cards close to your chest, but to be bold and go all-in when fate has dealt you a winning hand.

Mr. Jones QueenThe cases of this watches are made from polished stainless steel, coming in the typical shape of all the watches of Mr. Jones. They are 37 mm in diameter. Every case houses an automatic mechanical movement and is water resistant up to 5 ATM. Every watch comes on a woven stainless steel strap.

Mr. Jones KingThe watches are produced in the London workshop of Mr. Jones. All components are printed by hand before assembled and regulated also by hand.
Retail price for the King and Queen watches is £195 a piece and can be purchased online here. The King and Queen are limited editions; there will be only 100 pieces available of every watch.

The system which displays the minutes sounds a little complicated, and maybe it takes a little while to get used to the system. But one can imagine this a little price to pay for wearing such a fun timepiece.

Salthora Meta: The new „jumping hour“ from Meistersinger

Meistersinger specializes in manufacturing watches that feature one single hand – and only show what is really important. Mostly, a single, neele-thin hour hand rotates around the dial on which you can accurately tell the time to the nearest five minutes. However, the Salthora, which was first presented in 2014, features a minute hand instead – the hour is shown in a circular window positioned at 12 o’clock. As soon as the hand reaches the middle of the window every sixty minutes, the number denoting the next hour appears in the window like a flash.

salthora-meta_02The „jumping hour“ principle was first used in wristwatches during the 1920s. However, its perfection is quite a technical challange. The Salthora by Meistersinger should display the „jump“ exactly on the hour, show the hour in the window without wobbling or shaking, but jump to the middle of the window with immediate precision. The watch should also provide the power required for the jump without impairing the smoothness of the movement.

SAM909For all these reasons, Meistersinger had a module designed for the tried-and-tested ETA-2824-2 ans Sellita SW 200-1 Swiss movement, which ensures the punctual, exact jump using painstakingly balanced mechanics. The tension required for the actuating lever of the hour disk is built up by a snail attached to the minute whieel in the course of 60 minutes. Hence, power is not withdrawn suddenly from the mainspring barrel, but continually, which only influences the workings to a minimal degree.

The first Salthora is visually dedicated to the charm of watchmaking finesse. With the new Salthora Meta, however, Meistersinger has adopted a new style, paying tribute to the clear, powerful character of this SAM907watch concept.
The Salthora Meta is 43 millimeters in diameter and has a striking, cylindrical stainless steel case. It is waterproof up to 5 atm and fitted with a six-screwed exhibition back. The digits of the minutes and of the hour display are depicted in a sans serif Helvetica typeface. The watch will be available in four versions. The models featuring a white or ivory-covered dial will be fitted with an hour disk in exactly the same colour. Here, the complication is not immediately obvious. However, the hour disk in the blue version is white, just like its hand. The black Meta with the hour digits and hand in signal red has an almost dramatic impact.

Squale 50 Atmos Ocean blasted 1521-026 Diver’s watch

Squale-Ocean-Blasted-1521-6The Squale 50 Atmos Ocean blasted 1521-026 was designed for the professional diver.

It is a classic 500 meter professional diver the with the characteristic and famous „von Büren“ case. This case was part of lots of famous dive watches over decades, as Squale supplied these also to other big and small Swiss brands.
This unique and highly recognizable shape features a signe screw-down crown on the 4 o’clock position which is recessed and well protected against unwanted Squale-Ocean-Blasted-1521-5impact. Due to the recessed crown and the elegant flowing design of the polished case the watch is exceptionally comfortable to wear, even on a smaller wrist. Although the case has a diameter of 42 mm and a hight of 13 mm.
The smooth, coin-shaped 60 clicks uni-directional bezel partners very well with the orange minute hand providing crucial information on remaining or elapsed dive-time. The dial provides that at a glance. The scratch-resistant sapphire crystal is enhanced with anti-reflective treatment on both sides and protects the Squale Ocean blasted up to 500 meters below sea-level or 50 atmosphere of pressure.

The hand-painted blue sunburst dial with the distinctly designed luminescent markers of Super LumiNova provides excellent legibility in every low-light situation.
Squale-Ocean-Blasted-1521-1The great attention to detail give this iconic timepiece a contemporary look and feel but still paying respect to its classic, unique design and brand philosophy.

The Swiss Made ETA 2824 automatic movement gives the Squale 50 Atmos Ocean blasted 1521-026  its mechanical reliability and accuracy under the toughest circumstances. It also provides a power reserve of approximately 38 hours.

The Squale 50 Atmos Ocean blasted 1521-026 is a purpose built tool-watch which is elegant and reliable and therefore a perfect companion for every day adventures. It can be purchased with different straps – with a stainless steel bracelet, rubber straps in different colors (all matching the dial of course) or vintage leather straps. While the latter are definitely highly attractive may a rubber strap be the better choice for the regular diver because of its high resistance to saltwater.

Striking and hefty: The Hindenberg Independence

For everyone who likes a hefty watch on the wrist, the Hindenberg Independence is an excellent choice. It is big, heavy and bulky. This watch is a tool you definitely won’t hide under your shirt cuff.

Hindenberg Stahl Silber frontThis watch is equipped with some interesting features. The heart of the watch is the automatic calibre H-09.160 with 20 jewels. It displays hours, minutes and seconds as well as the date, the day of the week and the month. On 6 o’clock the dial shows a sun-/moon-display, on 3 o’clock you will find the date window with the brand name next to it.
The hands are the most important and visible part of the dial. Like the numbers on 2, 4, 8 and 10 o’clock they are glowing in the dark to enhance legibility even under difficult circumstances. This wristwatch in general is very easy to read. The seconds hand brings a touch of paint to the dial and the red corresponds well with the overall design. Everything is protected by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal.

Hindenberg Stahl SilberLike mentioned before, the Hindenberg Independence is a watch that definitely attracts attention. It measures 44 mm in diameter and the thickness is 13 mm. The weight is also something worth mentioning – 211 grams in total. The stainless steel bracelet is solid which is absolutely required to keep this watch on stable on your wrist. Like all metal bracelets it can be a bit of a hair puller, but on a watch this size and with these rugged looks a leather strap would simply be no alternative. The size is also so apparent that you will constantly reminded of this watch while wearing it.
The two pushers are large and easy to press. The Hindenberg Independence is water-resistant up to 5 ATM.

This model comes in four different variations – with a silver, black, blue or green dial. Although the dial remains unaltered, the change in the overall looks of the watch is pretty amazing. This may be a surprisingly hard choice.

raymond-weil-maestro-frank-sinatra-limited-editionSwiss watchmaker Raymond Weil celebrates the hundred year anniversary of the birth of Frank Sinatra with a watch – the Maestro Frank Sinatra Limited Edition. This timepiece pays homage to the legendary artist and his iconic persona.

Among his many accomplishments, Sinatra earned a total of 21 Grammys, 3 Oscars and 2 Golden Globes, frequently earning him the title of one of the greatest entertainers of all time. But he also remains a true icon of elegance and style. His impeccable suits, iconic tipped hat and soulful blue eyes all contributed to his legendary status.
And Frank Sinatra knew a thing or two about timing – when performing he employed „the heartbeat tempo“, which characterises all of his famous songs. So it comes as no surprise, that Sinatra always insisted on keeping perfect time with a fine watch. „He insisted that his wristwatch would have the utmost mechanical integrity and construction to guarantee many years of faithful and accurate service,“ says his son, Frank Sinatra Jr.

RW_maestro_2837-stc-sinat_back_rvb_72dpiThe Sinatra watch features a swiss automatic movement with automatic winding (the RW 4200, based on the Selitta SW200) housed in a 39.5 mm stainless steel case. The calibre provides a power reserve up to 38 hours and beats at 4 Hz.
Reminiscent of the famed „Ol‘ Blue Eyes“ the hands, index markers, and contour of the date window are a bright blue hue, against the backdrop of a silver dial. The watch face is classic yet distinctive – much like Frank Sinatra himself.
A transparent caseback boasts a special Sinatra Sentennial insignia, while the twelve marker, highlighted as the only Roman numeral, signifies Sinatra’s December 12th birthday.
Also in reference to his birthday, only 1,212 pieces of the Maestro Frank Sinatra Limited Edition watch will be available.

This Raymond Weil watch comes with a brown leather bracelet with a traditional buckle.
