For the Nintendo Fans: The RJ-Romain Jerome Super Mario Bros.

RJ.M.AU_.IN_.011.01-Romain-Jerome-Super-Mario-Bros-watchFor all Super Mario fans the wait is finally over – RJ-Romain Jerome is now releasing the Super Mario Bros. collection. In honor of the game’s 30th anniversary (wow, aren’t we getting old!) RJ-Romain Jerome is adding the center piece to its Generational Icons collection. And another watch to the luxury „nostalgia“ watches out there.

In a 46mm case the watchmaker has recreated the original Super Mario Bros. game from 1985. Nintendo’s legendary character Mario is dressed in his recognisable red shirt and blue overalls with his famous Romain-Jerome-Super-Mario-Bros-watchjump and iconic mushroom. These most symbolic elements of the game are eye-catchingly depicted on the dial and are all captured in the visual stye that captivaded more than one generation. And that’s hardly surprising, because Super Mario was one of the first video game characters that entered pop culture in a serious way while being „human“.

In order to accentuate the pixelation with perfect geometrical forms, the dial was built on a complex three layered plate with different finishes, either bead-blasted or drawn out for both the RJ-Romain Jerome monogram and the ground setting, which offers an overall 3D effect. All appliques, representing Super Mario, along with his mushroom, a cloud and bush, were hand-painted in cold enamel with the 30th anniversary colours and then set on the dial to add even more perspecitve to the ensemble.

RJ-Super-Mario-Bros-watchThe timepiece is presented in RJ-Romain Jerome’s distinctive Moon Invader case in titanium grade 5 with a black PVD-coating. The lugs are fitted with safety screws for optimal wrist adjustment. The watch is powered by the mechanical self-winding movement RJ001-A. It provides a power reserve of 42 hours as well as central hours and minutes. Central and minute hands are all to distract the wearer from the Super Mario scene.

To echo 1985, the year the game launched, the Super Mario Bros. watch is limited to 85 pieces. It will be officially introduced at the end of 2015.

Limited Edition: The Grand Seiko 55th Anniversary Spring Drive Chronograph

Since its birth in 1960, the Grand Seiko watch shared the commitment to the pure essentials of watchmaking: precision, durability, legibility and beauty. The 55th anniversary Limited Edition features enhancements in each of these essential characteristics of the Grand Seiko.

Grand-Seiko-Spring-Drive-Chronograph-GMT-SBGC013-1This wristwatch is powered by a specially tuned version of the Spring Drive calibre 9R96, an automatic calibre with a manual winding mechanism. This unique movment is specially tuned for enhanced accuracy. The crystal oscillators are selected individually, realizing an accuracy of +/- 10 seconds per month. A lion emblem in 18 carat yellow gold graces the oscillating weight to symbolize the enhanced accuracy.
The 9R96 movement has a 72 hours power reserve. It also has a lot of great functions that include the time with subsidiary seconds, date, power reserve indicator, GMT hand, and a 12-hour chronograph.

The deep black ceramic on the bezel gives the watch a crisp and refined appearance. Ceramic is seven times harder and 25% lighter than stainless steel and therefore especially scrat resistant. Its surface is specially polished to the highest possible level to create a long-lasting and super-flat mirror finish.
The 43.5 mm case is made from high-intensity titanium and it features a high definition dual-curved sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating.

The signature colour of the Grand Seiko is a deep blue and it sets the tone for this watch. The chronograph hands are golden, creating a strong contrast with the blue dial and giving high legibility to the stopwatch function.

Both the movement and the complete watch are assembled in the Shinshu Watch Studio, in the mountainous area in the center of Japan.
The Grand Seiko is water resistant up to 10 Bar and features a titanium bracelet.

The watch is offered in a limited edition of just 400 pieces.

Made in Italy: The U-Boat Capsule

Inspired by the first undersea exploration modules, the Capsule is the latest creation designed by Italo Fontana. Fascinated by depth gauges made in the early 1930s, this watch was designed with characteristic features in mind, from the rounded shape to the porthole windows with water pressure resistant glass to ensure that the people inside the cabin survived the dive.

U-BOAT Batisfera AKA the CAPSULE Watch 02The Capsule watch uses a patented system to clamp the glass to the grade 5 titanium case, featuring a system of external fixing levers guaranteed to withstand the pressure exerted by both outside and inside agents.

The two main levers, blocked in place by a third one positioned at three o’clock and by special safety screws, press the domed glass in hesalite against the waterproof gasket beneath. This system secures the watch in the event of pressure channges. The entire process of opening and removing the glass can be performed without dismantling any of the watch’s main components, but only the glass.

U-BOAT Batisfera AKA the CAPSULE Watch 01The two-piece case (middle and back) is joined by screws and has no bezel, which is replaced by the glass itself. The case is made from titanium grade 5. The crown can be screwed down and it is designed and manufactured according to U-Boat technical specifications.
The release mechanism on the right side of the case provides easy access to the dial and component parts. A special titanium ring guarantees an airtight seal and total water resistance up to 10 ATM. The case is 50 mm in diameter and 23.5 mm in height. The Capsule is powered by the U-28 movement.

This wristwatch from Italo Fontana comes in two different versions: with a black or a beige coloured dial. The watches come with a leather strap which is fully and worked and has a waxed cotton finishing.

The U-Boat Capsule watch is limited to 288 pieces.

Raymond Weil Celebrates Sinatra

Reminiscent of the famed „Ol‘ Blue Eyes“ the hands, index markers, and contour of the date window are a bright blue hue, against the backdrop of a silver dial. The watch face is classic yet distinctive – much like Frank Sinatra himself.
A transparent caseback boasts a special Sinatra Sentennial insignia, while the twelve marker, highlighted as the only Roman numeral, signifies Sinatra’s December 12th birthday.
Also in reference to his birthday, only 1,212 pieces of the Maestro Frank Sinatra Limited Edition watch will be available.

Limited Edition: The Sinn 1800 S Damaszener

The Sinn 1800 S Damaszener ist made of Damascus steel. In the Sinn Spezialuhren functionality defines design and innovative technology is always at play. Since the establishment of Sinn in 1961 the manufacturer focused continuously on high-quality mechanical watches combining a tradtional sense of quality with advanced solutions. This has repeatedly resulted in the use of totally new watchmaking materials; in 2005 Sinn used German Submarine Steel in diving watches.

It gained its legendary reputation above all in the making of swords, knives and blades. Damascus steel is a combination of at least two different types of steel, layered to create the aforesaid surface design.  The traditional art of making Damascus steel is very elaborate and portrays a unique blend of craftsmanship application.

The watch thus displays a uniqueness that is immediately reflected in its design and appearance. In order to bring the characteristics textures of Damascus steel to the fore – an organic pattern of alternating brands of light and dark – the dial and central part of the case are forged from a complete steel block rather than designed as separate components, as is customary. The result is rather remarkable: for the Damascus pattern on the dial continues across the entire case to create an impressive whole. Thanks to the use of Tegiment Technology and the application of an additional Black Hard Coating. The case is 43 mm in diameter.

Sinn-Model-1800-S-Damaszener-aBlogtoWatch-4In order to keep the dial clean and simple the Sinn 1800 S Damaszener only shows hours, minutes and seconds, and the indices are made from 13 meticulously appliquées, each one coated with luminescent colour, like the hour and minute hand. The date-window on 6 o’clock is conveniently small. The dial is protected by a sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective coating on both sides.
The watch is powered by the mechanical movement ETA 2892-A2 with self-winding mechanism and 21 bearing jewels. The movement is shock resistant and anti-magnetic.
