Made in Italy: The U-Boat Capsule

Inspired by the first undersea exploration modules, the Capsule is the latest creation designed by Italo Fontana. Fascinated by depth gauges made in the early 1930s, this watch was designed with characteristic features in mind, from the rounded shape to the porthole windows with water pressure resistant glass to ensure that the people inside the cabin survived the dive.

U-BOAT Batisfera AKA the CAPSULE Watch 02The Capsule watch uses a patented system to clamp the glass to the grade 5 titanium case, featuring a system of external fixing levers guaranteed to withstand the pressure exerted by both outside and inside agents.

The two main levers, blocked in place by a third one positioned at three o’clock and by special safety screws, press the domed glass in hesalite against the waterproof gasket beneath. This system secures the watch in the event of pressure channges. The entire process of opening and removing the glass can be performed without dismantling any of the watch’s main components, but only the glass.

U-BOAT Batisfera AKA the CAPSULE Watch 01The two-piece case (middle and back) is joined by screws and has no bezel, which is replaced by the glass itself. The case is made from titanium grade 5. The crown can be screwed down and it is designed and manufactured according to U-Boat technical specifications.
The release mechanism on the right side of the case provides easy access to the dial and component parts. A special titanium ring guarantees an airtight seal and total water resistance up to 10 ATM. The case is 50 mm in diameter and 23.5 mm in height. The Capsule is powered by the U-28 movement.

This wristwatch from Italo Fontana comes in two different versions: with a black or a beige coloured dial. The watches come with a leather strap which is fully and worked and has a waxed cotton finishing.

The U-Boat Capsule watch is limited to 288 pieces.

The watch of Castle’s Kate Beckett: The Omega Speedmaster

1000.5x1In case you are a fan of the ABC-Show „Castle“ you might have wondered, which watch it is, that Detective Kate Beckett is wearing. It is a Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional 42mm. It is the watch of her father and it is of nostalgic value to her.

admin-ajaxThe Speedmaster is one of the most iconic timepieces watchmaker Omega has to offer. Having been a part of all six lunar missions, the legendary Speedmaster is an impressive representation of the brand’s adventurous pioneering spirit. This watch was worn during the first American spacewalk and was the first watch worn by an astronaut walking on the moon during the Apollo 11 mission.
This Omega Speedmaster Professional „Moonwatch“ features a black dial covered by a hesalite crystal and graced by a small seconds sub-dial, 30-minute recorder and 12-hour recorder along with a central chronograph hand. The black bezel, with its tachymetric scale, is mounted on a 42 mm stainless steel case and presented on a black leather strap.

admin-ajax1At the heart of this chronograph is Omega’s mechanical calibre 1861, the famous manual-winding movement that was worn on the moon. It comes with a rhodium-plated finish and a power-reserve of 48 hours. The Moonwatch is also water resistant up to 50 metres.

Clearly, the Omega Speedmaster Professional „Moonwatch“ is a legendary piece. Its calibre has proven its worth and reliability under the hardest circumstances possible, which are unlikely to happen here on earth. It is made to last and comes with an extraordinary history. That it appears in a popular TV-Show therefore becomes a minor matter. But a nice one, we have to admit.

Panerai: Radiomir 1949 10 Days GMT Automatic Oro Rosso 45 mm

The Radiomir 1940 10 Days GMT Automatic Oro Rosso 45 mm is an exclusive Special Edition where the beauty and simplicity of the case is combined with the P.2003/10 in-house movement.
The case of the watch is immediately recognisable by its lines of exemplary simplicity, a testimony to the purity of Italian design of the 1930s and 1940s, is made of red gold, and is 45 mm in diameter.

Panerai-Radiomir-1940-10-Days-GMT-Automatic-1-624x478The brown dial has an elegant satiné soleil finish and an impeccable aesthetic balance which enables all the functions of the watch to be read immediately and clearly. The structure of the dial is the classic sandwich, invented by Panerai to provide the maximum visibility and legibility of its indications even in very low light conditions: two superimposed discs contain the luminous material which shines through the holes made in the upper disc, which correspond to the dial markings.
The brown dial is sun-brushed and showes the date at 3 o’clock, the 24-hour-indicator at 8 o’clock and a linear power reserve indicator at 6 o’clock. It is protected by a sapphire crystal formed of corundrum.

1033671.png.adapt.646.1024The automatic mechanical P.2003/10 calibre is executed entirely by Panerai. With a diameter of 31 mm and three spring barrels which give the watch a power reserve of ten days, the movement has 25 jewels and a balance spring which makes 28,800 vibrations per hour. The main functions are hours, minutes and small seconds, date and linear indication of the remaining power reserve.
The back of the watch is made from see-through sapphire crystal so the amazing movement can be observed while working.

The Radiomir 1940 10 Days Automatic is supplied with a brown alligator strap. The case is water-resistant to 5 bar – a depth of about 50 metres.

When you desire one of these gorgeous watches you’ll better be quick – there will only be made 150 units. The good news: In black as well, and that makes 300 in total.

Longines Pulsometer Chronograph – for the medical professional

Longines is reissuing the Pulsometer Chronograph. It stands out for its retro-styling dial that features an unusual chronograph scale. Although a tachymeter, used for measuring speed over a known distance, is a common chronograph scale seen on sports watches, there are other types of scales that look more at home on the face of a dress watch.

pulsometer-chronograph1

The Longines Pulsometer Chronograph is a reissue of a watch once used by medical professional to test a patient’s heart rate. The design is based on a watch from the 1920s, putting its faith in bold, contrasting colors.
The steel hands are Breguet-style and they are looking beautiful against the clean background of the dial and the dial printing in black and red makes this watch legible despite having a lot of information displayed in a small space.

The scaled-back design makes the Pulsometer Chronograph elegant; the designers have removed extraneous components. The chronograph counter must be eminently legible for medical use, so the 3 and 9 hour markers have been removed to give the sub-dials space. The 6 o’clock marker gives way to a date window.

The pulsometer function is easy to use – you start the chronograph and count 30 seconds heart beats. After stopping the chronograph the blue chronograph-seconds will be pointing at the correct heart rate.
Inside is the L188.2 movement working, a self-winding colum-wheel chronograph with a 54 hour power reserve. The movement layout is that of an ETA 7750, but Longines has made a couple of major alterations to it.

Longines-Pulsometer-Chronograph-9

The watch is smart and simple, made of stainless steel. It is water resistant to 30 meters. The case is 40 mm in diameter not including the crown at 3 o’clock. So the Pulsometer is designed to fit smoothly under a sleeve without grabbing much attention. The strap is made from brown alligator leather which compliments the color palette of the dial.
