Bell & Ross Is Playing with Luminous Contrasts

For the second time in its history, Bell & Ross has introduced a fully luminescent watch, the BR V2-94 Full Lum 2. It’s predecessor, the BR 03-92 Full Lum, was introduced in 2019 and a huge success. And now, the manufacture has decided to add another model, which combines two Super-LumiNova Colours while holding up a professional appearance.

First, let’s take a look at the case of the BR V2-94 Full Lum 2. It is made of stainless steel and features a diameter of 41 mm. The black anodised aluminium bezel has a 60-minute scale and is fixed. The chronograph pushers are screwed down to ensure they cannot be activated accidentally, and everything is water-resistant up to 10 bar.

Bell & Ross has coated the dial of the BR V2-94 Full Lum 2 completely with a paint made of green Super-LumiNova C5 luminescent pigments, while the applique skeletonized numerals, indices, hands, and counters are filled with the pale yellow Super-LumiNova C3.
The brightness charge and discharge cycles are endless and never alter the efficacy of the watch. The recharge is quick and the light intensity is very good, ensuring maximum readability in the dark.
Of course, the look of the dial in daylight is probably even more crucial. We know Bell & Ross to design its dials clear and with a focus on legibility and the BR V2-94 Full Lum 2 is no different. The subdial at the 3 o’clock position shows the running seconds while the one at the 9 o’clock position counts the chronograph minutes. And the latter glows in a blue hue instead of green.
This chronograph features an ultra-domed glass-box sapphire crystal.

The case back is also made from sapphire crystal and opens onto the mechanical movement, the BR-CAL.301. It is a reliable automatic movement that Bell & Ross uses frequently in its chronographes. This calibre operates at a frequency of 4 Hz and provides a power reserve of at least 42 hours.

Just like its predecessor, the BR V2-94 Full Lum 2 is a limited edition of 250 pieces. The watch is made from weave black rubber, also known as „tropic“, which provides the final vintage touch to this contemporary watch.

Bell & Ross Flight Instruments: BR 03-92 HUB

Bell & Ross, the ultimate reference for professional aviation timepieces, goes back to its origins in high performance military instruments with a new interpretation of its iconic watch, the BR 03-92 HUD. The Instrument collection is directly inspired by the aeronautical essential navigation tools of aircraft cockpit and highlights bell & Ross‘ four fundamental requirements: legibility, functionality, precision and water-resistance.
Fully in line with the characteristics of this collection, the new BR 03-92 HUD gets inspiration from the avionics displays of fighter jets equipped with the most cutting-edge technology.
Everything started in 2005 with the BR 01 which was inspired by the cockpit clocks of 1970’s airplanes. Then in 2010 the BR 01 Radar entered the market, followed by other models like the BR 01 Turn Coordinator. And now, ten years later, the watchmakers at Bell & Ross are turning all their attention to the Head Up Display (HUD). This new introduction completes the Flight Instruments Family.

The HUD is a transparent glass screen that displays all information that is essential to fulfill a mission in the pilot’s visual field. For optimal effectiveness, its primary function is to keep the pilot focused on the target ahead without having t take the eyes off their line of sight. The HUD takes on the augmented reality concept; with displaying digital data onto the windshield, pilots can be alerted about everything from the horizon line, altitude or speed to navigation aids. If you think that that sounds vaguely familiar it’s because the HUD is now also frequently used in the automobile industry.

The design of the BR 03-92 HUD embodies the spirit of Bell & Ross’ Instrument watches, as a contemporary style, the black matte ceramic case features the iconic “circle in a square” that evokes the silhouette of an aircraft cockpit clock.

The technical and graphical tools with tips to translate this display type at the much smaller scale of an analog mechanical watch was an innovative exercise at the brand’s creative studio. Arranged in tiers, the BR 03-92 HUD is built around superimposed levels to create an overlay that echoes the real HUD instrument.
The watch hinges on three layers: On the upper level, the green-tinted sapphire crystal gives the illusion of the digital HUD-type display, using the surface of the disc dial and that of the crystal. Here are the four brackets found from HUD line of sight. On the middle level, the black and green hands reveal the minutes and seconds. The hand’s center parts were purposely hidden to further increase the legibility. On the lower level, the hours are indicated by a green triangle marker which appears in the center through an independent concentric disc. The watch also features a small date at 4 o’clock.

And of course, the coatings are worth noting on this timepiece. By using the green color, Bell & Ross recreates the graphic style of this Instrument as closely as possible. The green on the dial mirrors the computer-type display of the HUD, and the cases anti-reflective matte black background provides a striking contrast and the sapphire crystal is tinted.
To provide an intense green light, hour numerals, indices and triangle as well as the minute-circle and hands are coated with green Super-LumiNova.

The BR 03-92 HUD fits perfectly in the Instruments family which guarantee ultra-legibility at all times. The combination of green tinted sapphire crystal on green information emphasizes this.

The watch is powered by the calibre BR-CAL.302, an automatic movement known for its absolute reliability.
The utilitarian approach of this watch is completed with both a black rubber and an ultra-resilient black synthetic fabric strap.

The BR 03-92 HUD is a limited edition of only 999 pieces.

Bell & Ross: BR 03-92 Diver Black Matte

When one explores the ocean, when the pressure rises as one navigates its depths, when an instrument’s readability is a matter of survival, Bell & Ross‘ diving watches offer a professional, reliable and rugged solution to an environment that is as fascinating as it is dangerous.
Each Bell & Ross watch is designed to match its specific environment. For divers, Bell & Ross has developed tools that are perfectly suited for underwater exploration. They are capable of effectively assisting divers under all circumstances. Legible, functional, accurate, robust and reliable, they meet the specific demands of professionals on the job.

Bell & Ross has a long history of manufacturing watches for the marine realm. And the watch manufacturer’s marine expertise is the result of the collective experience and the knowledge of its designers, master watchmakers and professional users.
The square diving month has become a collection in its own right and now expands to include two new versions. And today we present the BR 03-92 Diver Black Matte.

The matte black ceramic of the BR 03-92 Black Matte is perfectly in tune with the aeronautical codes so crucial to the Bell & Ross philosophy. In the world of aeronautics, and especially space, ceramic is predominantly used in manufacturing parts that are subjected to very high temperatures, acid attacks, corrosion and erosion. Bell & Ross has reworked the high-tech ceramic and developed a special manufacturing process in its workshops. The result is virtually scratch-proof, pleasant to wear, soft to the touch and thermo-regulated. Almost as tough as a diamond, the ceramic is incredibly hardwearing, non-deformable, lighter than steel and hypoallergenic.
The sober design, black dial, large white numerals, shape of the hands and photoluminescent coating allow immediate reading of the time, in broad daylight as well as in darkness. The BR 03-92 Black Matte is powered by the BR-CAL.302, a reliable automatic movement.

The new BR 03-92 Diver Black Mat reaffirms the brand’s functional and utilitarian approach. With a diameter of 42 mm and a water resistance of 300 m, it is the perfect companion on the wrist of any diver.

Bell & Ross: BR03-94 Horolum & BR03-92 Horoblack

Bell & Ross, a reference in the field of professional aviation watches, with its square iconic shape and graphic lines, launched its Horo line last year with the BR03-92 Horolum. This year, the brand presents two novelties: the BR03-94 Horolum and the BR03-92 Horoblack. Their name comes from „Horo“, which is a reference to Bell & Ross‘ concept using matt micro blasted steel on the boxes and dials and a sandwich dial for an optimal readability.
The BR03-94 Horolum and the BR03-92 Horoblack reflect the spirit of Bell & Ross instrument watches. The case is designed in a contemporary style boasting the iconic shape of the house, a circle in a square that is reminiscent of the silhouette of a cockpit clock. They both have micro blasted steel caps and dials, which gives them a monobloc effect.

Steel blasting involves high-pressure spraying of tiny glass beads on the metal’s surface. This treatment „depolishes“ the surface giving it a uniform appearance and a grey tone. The finish is matte, and therefore, anti-reflective. It also avoids reverberations in the sun. This process reinforces their graphic look and utilitarian purpose. The cases are water-resistant up to 10 atm and measure 42 mm in diameter.
The common feature of both watches is the sandwich construction of the dial, which consists of two superimposed metal plates. The main characteristic of the „Horo“ models is the best readability at all times.

BR03-94 Horolum

This chronograph brings to mind light and readability. Super-LumiNova treatment facilities reading during the day and at nighttime. The color used for lighting landing strips, an intense green light that illuminates the tracks in the dark, is also used in the dial. It offers excellent luminescence and night readability. The indexes and giant numbers 12 and 6 are very legible and painted on the bottom plate. With its unparalleled brilliance, the green tinted Super-LumiNova is ultra-phosphorescent and lasts a long time in the dark. It allows a persistent reading during the night hours. The dial has two counters for calculating short times and a tachymeter scale on the flange.
The BR03-94 Horolum is powered by the automatic mechanical movement, the calibre BR-CAL.301. It features hours, minutes, small seconds at 3 o’clock; a date at 4.30 and a chronograph for short time periods – a 30-minute timer at 9 o’clock and central chronograph seconds.
The BR03-94 is mounted on a grey-green calfskin strap and is a limited edition of 500 pieces.

BR03-92 Horoblack

This watch features a simple and uncluttered display that features a graphic dial with clear indications. The design is simple. The bar indexes and the four numbers 12, 3, 6, and 9 enable an easy reading. This type of display is a classic at Bell & Ross, and its effectiveness is very well established. The identical finish of the box and the dial establishes a homogeneous block of the same hue. Indexes and hands play on the black and gray contrast, which guarantees optimal readability.
the BR03-92 Horoblack is powered by the calibre BR-CAL.302, an automatic movement which features hours, minutes, seconds and a date.
This three-hands model comes in a limited edition of 999 pieces.

The BR03-94 Horolum and the BR03-92 Horoblack instrument watches have been designed according to the principles of industrial design. Based on a square case, with pure and simple lines, they return to basics. The contemporary timepieces have their character and evoke the realm of the air: They share a minimalist design, hyper-readability and the micro blasted steel gives them modernity and purity.

Nocturnal Camouflage: Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Black Camo

Bell & Ross has become a reference in the instrument watch field, making aviation watches and has, as part of this quest, forged links with the world of the military. As a result, the watchmaker works regularly with professional elite units of the french military.
In 2007, Bell & Ross launched the Phantom concept, the Commando collection came two years later, in 2009. The launch of these watches, which were inspired by aeronautical instrumentation, heralded a foray into new territory and were among the first to use a camouflage coating in a horological setting. The new BR 03-92 Black Camo represents another link in the Bell & Ross camouflage watch series.

Phantom

Commando

The Phantom concept was one of the first to use the full black military coating. It features an antireflective matte black coating reminiscent of the surface of a stealth plane. Its numerals, indices and hands are covered with a photo luminescent coating. The Commando is part of the same lineage of avant-garde camouflage instrument watches and features a military-inspired coating. Its cases, numerals and indices are covered in deep matte black, and its dial in matte gray. This collection is aimed at the elite units, the military commandos, and the response teams who operate covertly.

The new BR 03-92 Black Camo is the lates addition to the series and for this model, Bell & Ross has developed an original military-type tricolor coating. Its dial is covered with a patchwork of matte greys, its case and strap in matte black. Especially at night, this timepiece is practically undetectable because its matte-treated colours avoid the risk of undesirable reflections. Like in the two earlier versions, the Black Camo also comes with luminescent coating. Not risking detecting is one thing, but the watch still has to be legible.

The simple time display is based on the brand’s visual signature: large numerals accompanied by batons indices for perfect legibility. The design of the hands is also distinctive. The four large numerals impressive in both design and size, are also a Bell & Ross classic. The sandwich type dial is made up of two superposed inserts. The lower one has a black Super-LumiNova coating while the upper one carries the camouflage pattern. The die cutting for the numerals and indices reveals the black Super-LumiNova which guarantees best legibility, both day and night.

The watch is powered by the BR-CAL.302, a Swiss Made self-winding mechanical calibre.
The 42-mm-case of the BR 03-92 Black Camo uses mass-coloured ceramic. This material is wear-resistant and extremely durable as well as comfortable to wear in the heat and cold. The case is also water-resistant up to 100 metres which makes this watch perfectly resilient to environmental challenges.
The watch comes with a black rubber and synthetic fabric strap.

Designed to Conquer Space: BR-X1 HyperStellar

Bell & Ross has introduced a space-themed version of its BR-X1 hypersonic chronograph earlier this year, the BR-X1 HyperStellar. Mechanical chronographs have always been part of the official kit of astronauts and cosmonauts. These watches have enabled missions to be completed in situations where electronic motor systems have malfunctioned.
To survive in space, a watch has to respond to certain specifications: resistance to extreme temperatures, corrosion, impacts, acceleration, pressure, vibration and more. This is not easy to achieve.

bell_ross_hyperstellar_4

Bell & Ross has designed the BR-X1 HyperStellar as a horological space capsule and made sure that the watch is suitable for use with gloves. The predominance of stone grey and electric blue is a reference to two colours closely associated with space exploration: the grey of the moon and the blue of the Earth.
The BR-X1 HyperStellar chronograph features a 60-second counter in the centre, the minute timer on the chronograph function is positioned at 9 o’clock and instead of a hand it features an ultra light aluminium disk resembling the blades of a turbine.
On the flange appears a tachymetre scale in blue.
Made from grey-tinted sapphire crystal and featuring appliqué metal indices filled with Super-LumiNova, the dial forms a clear window through which the movement can be admired.

bell_ross_hyperstellar_3

Through the usage of titanium and aluminium for the case the BR-X1 HyperStellar is a very light watch. These two materials are widely used in the aerospace industry. Aluminium is known to generate an impermeable oxide lawyer, which protects it against corrosion. And titanium has exceptional corrosion resistance properties, high biocompatibility and properties that enable the production of small, thin parts that are light yet strong.
The case measures 45 mm in diameter, the bezel’s protective insert is in blue anodised aluminium. To protect it from impacts, the square case of the BR-X1 HyperStellar is covered with a bumper in the rubber that acts as a peripheral protective shell. A rubber grip function has also been integrated to ensure better handling even when wearing gloves.
The case is water resistant up to 100 metres and combines polished and brushed surfaces.

The Bell & Ross BR-X1 HyperStellar is powered by the calibre BR-CAL.313, a skeletonized, mechanical automatic movement. It can be seen through a small circular opening in the caseback.
This watch comes with a grey alligator and rubber strap and is limited to 200 pieces.
