New Diameter, New Family: The Alpina Startimer Pilot Automatic

The new Alpina Pilot Startimer Automatic is both beautiful and functional. The collection is devoted to aviation and is ot only one of the most popular with pilots, but the one that has proved the manufacturer’s most successful. With its unique balance between functionality and luxury, this timepiece is appealing to collectors, professional pilots and watch enthusiasts alike. Vintage-inspired, camouflage, stylish stopwatch or three-hand: the Startimer collection has long been an important member of the Alpina family. And now the Startimer Pilot Automatic is avialable with a diameter of 40 mm. And not only that, it also comes in five different versions.

Being more universal, the Startimer Pilot Automatic is officially classified as a unisex model Many women already wear a 40 mm watch, a diameter long adopted by men. Traditionally, the 39 mm and 40 mm diameters were preferred by collectors and historic manufacturing companies, who thought them the most tasteful, restrained and timeless over the centuries.

The new Startimer Pilot Automatic collection is defined by its 40 mm stainless steel case which is water-resistant up to 10 atm. It either comes in steel or with a rose gold or black PVD coating. With its new diameter, the watch opens up new prospects for the Startimer collection and will look perfectly appropriate for a professional environment, under the sleeve of a suit. Being more contemporary, it can also be worn „urban style“, looking youthful and dynamic when teamed with a simple t-shirt.
The diameter has changed, but Alpina has preserved the essence of the Startimer Pilot Automatic range: open dials with large luminescent hands for telling the time at night, a date display at 3 o’clock and a long seconds-hand sweeping over a timer with index markers every 5 minutes. Index hour markers at 12 and 6 o’clock have been replaced by luminescent horizontal indexes. Midday always features the vertial red triangle, Alpina’s Alpine symbol, which can also be found at the end of the secons hand.

The new Startimer Pilot Automatic models are powere by the calibre AL-525, an automatic movement which provides a power-reserve of 38 hours. It is not visible but works tirelessly behind a solid case-back, engraved with Alpine peaks.

As already mentioned, the new Startimer Pilot Automatic is available in five different versions. There are two models in stainless steel with a navy blue or white dial, one with a black PVD-coating as well as a black dial and two versions with a rose gold coating. One with a blue dial and one with a grey one. All watches are equipped with a calfskin strap that matches the dial.
