Alpina enhances its Alpina Quartz with the GMT function

The Alpina Quartz collection, launched by Alpina in 2019, has been updated to include a model, featuring a GMT function in the form of a central hand alongside the hour, minutes, seconds and date displays. Alpina offers this new model with two choices of dial colour and bracelet.
In 1933, 50 years after its foundation, the fledgling Swiss manufacturer launched the Block Uhr. This timepiece was more than just a watch. With its anti-magnetic, anti-shock and water-resistant qualities and stainless steel case, it was more than a simple watch. Indeed, it established the basic principles of the sports watch. The Alpina 4 collection, created in 1938, incorporated elements of the essential features of the so-called outdoor watch.

The latest Alpiner Quartz GMT follows the footsteps of its sporting predecessors. Its quartz technology guarantees a high precision in time-keeping and adds value to the collection with its GMT function. Moreover, it allows travel enthusiasts to keep a close eye on the time at home; essential when contacting friends and family, arranging meetings across different time zones or simply readjusting your biological clock at the end of a long journey.

Like all authentic sports watches, the new Alpiner Quartz GMT has a firm focus on legibility and performance. The large central red pointer keeps track of the domestic time by means of the 24-hour increments engraved on the bezel. The pointer can be moved forwards or backwards, allowing you to adjust to local time in just a few seconds, without having to go the way over the crown.
The Alpiner Quartz GMT’s colour-coded bezel provides a simple and intuitive way to distinguish between day and night, removing the need for a separate day/night display which would impair the clean lines of the dial.
The date display has also moved from 6 to 3 o’clock, thus ensuring that this watch retains the aesthetic balance and legibility of its predecessors. By tweaking these elements, the dial now has space for the Alpiner Quartz GMT’s 100-metre water resistance guarantee.

The Alpiner Quartz GMT is equipped with a stainless steel case with a diameter of 42mm and, as mentioned earlier, a water-resistance of 100 metres. The case comes with bevelled edges, alternating between a satin or polished finish. Above the dial, which is available either in anthracite grey or navy blue, is a sapphire crystal.

Vacheron Constantin Has a New Horological Muse

The Égérie is the new horolocial muse of Vacheron Constantin, and it joins the world of Haute Manufacture. In this new collection dedicated to women, Haute Horlogerie meets Haute Couture, seen through the prism of craftsmanship, precision, excellence and beauty.
The sophisticated style of Haute Couture is subtly paired with the asymmetrical aesthetic faithfully perpetuating the Vacheron Constantin heritage. Thus, the new Érégie collection weaves the face of watchmaking femininity; a watch featuring a classic look, draped with a mischievous touch: inspiring, independent and charismatic.
The feminine name of this collection derives from the famous nymph Egeria featured in Roman mythology to the contemporary muses who inspire artists and designers.

A delicate interplay of textures and intertwined shapes, alternating flat and raised areas; a pleated effect reminiscent of fabric; a singular asymmetry borne by a fluid aesthetic: such is the exquisite aesthetic of the Égérie watch.
Égérie is also the modern interpretation of aesthetic codes cherished by Vacheron Constantin, which has been offering off-centre displays since the early 19th century, notably by playing on two intertwined circles. Égérie has made this its signature touch. The date or moon-phase integration is thus part of a subtle diagonal line formed by the logo and the crown daringly placed between 1 and 2 o’clock. Depending on the model, the latter is adorned with a cabochon-cut moonstone or a rose-cut diamond.

A dial featuring a pleaded pattern. A diamond halo resembling slender braiding and accentuating the feminine shape of the case. And above all, sophistication in every detail, expressed through pleasingly harmonious geometry punctuated by gold Arabic numerals, daintily scalloped like lace.

The Érégie self-winding is availbable in rose gold or stainless steel. The 35 mm pebble-shaped case is crowned with a slender bezel overstitched with 58 diamonds. The dial sets the stage for a delicate opaline silver work of art composed of concentric circles, graced with a pleated pattern. The calligraphic numerals evoke fine embroidery, while the leaf-type hours and minutes hands recall fine needles used by nimble fingers.
The Égérie self-winding is powered by the calibre 1088, an in-house automatic movement that provides a power-reserve of 40 hours.

The night star is at the very heart of the Égérie moon phase model, which comes in a 37 mm case in rose gold or steel, which a diamond-set bezel. An offset circle glittering with 36 diamonds displays a dreamlike version of time, with the gold moon appearing in a starry sky revealed behind clouds formed by a delicate mother-of-pearl assembly. The enchanting charm of this model is further enhanced by its opaline silver dial and pleated pattern.
The Égérie moon phase model is available in stainless steel or rose gold; both versions feature a generous diamond setting. Both are also fitted with the calibre 1088L.
But – the Égérie moon phase is also available as diamond-pavé model in white gold. Its white gold case bears 292 diamonds, while the dial deploys its concentric circles amid a shower of 510 diamonds.

Vacheron Constantin supplies all models on either stainless steel or leather straps, depending on the version.

Zenith Places Women in the Spotlight in Dubai

Zenith embarks on the debut edition of LVMH Watch Week with a new kind of innovation in its Defy collection with the Defy Midnight, a uniquely conceived line of women’s watches with a cosmic touch. In addition, the new Elite collection redefines the codes of 21st century watchmaking for the ultimate contemporary elegance.

With its new creations dedicated entirely to women, Zenith is elevating both ends of the spectrum of women’s watches. On one side, the resolutely contemporary Defy Midnight and on the other, the timelessly elegant Elite collection.
For its first purely feminine watch, Zenith sought inspiration from the cosmos. The Defy Midnight is a versatile sporty-chic timepiece with a uniquely celestial dial. As much a jewel as it is a watch, the Defy Midnight is the perfect companion for the women of today: confident, expressive and with a style of their own.

Housed in a 36mm stainless steel case embellished with brilliant-cut diamonds, the dial of the Defy Midnight gives Zenith’s „time to reach your star“ philosophy a literal, visual manifestation. Available in deep blue or grey colors, the dial features a glossy finish with a vertical gradient effect for an unprecedented depth. Portraying the night sky above the endless horizon, where the dark vastness of space gives way to the glimmer of starlight, the dial has an enchanting effect. Zenith’s faceted star emblem is the highest point in the depicted night sky. Completing the celestial landscape are stars of different sizes – some of which glow in the dark.
A third dial made of white mother-pearl with a vertical gradient effect evokes moonlight on a cloudy night. White diamonds are applied on every hour marker, except at 3 o’clock where the date window is placed.

Equipped with the automatic Elite in-house movement, the Defy Midnight provides dependable precision and autonomy of 50 hours. A star-shaped oscillating weight brings a galactic element to the case-back view.

The Defy Midnight features an assortment of bracelets and straps – the integrated stainless steel bracelet as well as a selection of colored satin and leather straps – that can easily be swapped by the wearer, allowing the watch to different looks and situations.

Armin Strom Gravity Equal Force

The new Gravity Equal Force is the newest timepiece from Armin Strom. This watch is not only demonstrating continuous innovation, one of the core principles of the manufacture, but also takes the traditional mainspring barrel and turns it on its head. The Gravity Equal Force also marks the launch of the new System 78 Collection, highlighting innovative watchmaking at a competitive price.

The inspiration behind Gravity Equal Force was a desire to transmit equal force to the balance, thereby increasing the consistency of rate. Building upon the classic stop-works mechanism, Armin Strom developed an ingenious stop-works declutch system that operates inside the mainspring barrell to limit the torque delivered to the balance, providing a smooth delivery. This represents the first time a stop-works declutch mechanism has been added to an automatic winding movement.
Not content with one innovation, Armin Strom found insight in a pocket watch in need of repair, which contained a motor barrel design showing clear advantages over the standard going barrel. So the watchmakers designed a barrel operating in the reverse of a traditional mainspring barrel driving the gong train via the barrel arbor and winding the barrel housing.
All of this is built into the new ASB19 calibre which works at a frequency of 3 Hz and provides a power reserve of up to 72 hours.

The new Gravity Equal Force also differs from previous models with a new off-center dial and slimmer case with a smaller diameter. The highlight of the watch is now the triplet of bridges. Moving to an off-center dial, the Gravity Equal Force is more legible to maximize the user experience.
The 41-mm-case is a first for Armin Strom. It is shaping a new aesthetic that showcases the reduction to the essential while maintaining the essence of the manufacture’s DNA.

Armin Strom equips the Gravity Equal Force with a black alligator leather strap.

The New TAG Heuer Carrera Lady

Elegant and enduring, the new Carrera Lady timepiece features a design that enhances the entire collection. From bold colours to the improved readability of the dial, the revamped Carrera Lady timepieces deftly combine performance and style. With their feminine flair and understated sophistication, any one of the new models in the Carrera Lady 36 mm collection will make the ideal accessory for the discerning and confident modern urban woman. And who to communicate this better than model, actress and TAG Heuer Brand Ambassador Cara Delevingne.

A glance at the dial reveals refined indexes and hands. The dial is available in white mother-of-pearl, purple, grey, blue and black, and is perfectly legible thanks to its markedly pure design. A seconds scale is printed on the flange around the dial, and is surrounded by either a smooth or diamond-set bezel. A final detail that sets the new Carrera Lady wristwatch apart from their predecessors is the date window at 3 o’clock – the frame boasts an intriguing trapezoidal shape, as opposed to the square shape of the original.

The 36 mm stainless-steel timepieces now feature curved lugs and a water-resistance to 10 bar. TAG Heuer offers three different straps for the new collection: a brushed and polished stainless-steel bracelet, a calfskin strap (in black or blue) or an alligator leather strap with a satin finish (in purple, taupe or grey).
The case size in combination with the automatic movement makes the Carrera collection a modern watch that stands out from the other ladies‘ watches of the avant-garde manufacturer. With its 36-mm-diameter, the case is larger than those of the women’s watches that TAG Heuer generally creates, but is ideal for a statement-making piece that is robust yet classy.

The new TAG Heuer Carrera Lady is equipped with either a quartz or an automatic movement. The automatic calibre 5 works with a frequency of 4 Hz and offers a power reserve of 38 hours.

The case back of the quartz-powered models is stamped with the TAG Heuer logo and collection name, along with a cross-hatched pattern that serves as a nod to the Carrera line’s motor-racing heritage. Alternatively, the mechanical movement counterparts feature a sapphire case back that provides an unobstructed view of the automatic calibre within.

Discreet and Sleek: Chrono Diamond Zelya

Recently, Chrono Diamond has added a few new models to its already extensive collection. So we thought it is about time to take a closer look at one of them. We have picked the Zelya, a wonderfully sleek women’s model that, like all other watches from Chrono Diamond, stands for the use of high quality materials and Swiss craftsmanship.

The Chrono Diamond Zelya is the beautiful embodiment of a discreet and slender ladies‘ watch. It couldn’t be more understated. In this timepiece, nothing distracts from the true, most important role of a watch: the display of the time.
Chrono Diamond has furnished the dial with a sunburst finish whose unity isn’t interrupted by a date window or subdials. The Zelya displays hours, minutes and seconds in a classic manner using three central hands and simple applied indices. The company logo is flanked by the two diamonds, characteristic for all Chrono Diamond watches. The dial is protected by a hardened mineral glass.

The Zelya features a stainless steel case with a diameter of 36 mm and a height of only 8 mm. So the watch is on the smaller size and with its short lugs it should fit perfectly on every wrist. The case is waterproof up to 5 atm and thus up to most everyday challenges.
In the case you’ll find a reliable Swiss quartz movement working tirelessly. Opting for quartz made the moderate proportions possible in the first place.
The Zelya is completed by a beautiful and slim Milanaise bracelet.

Chrono Diamond offers a variety of different versions of this watch. It comes not only in a stainless steel version, but also with gold, pink gold or black PVD coating. It can also be chosen between different colored dials; from silver and gold to dark grey and blue. So there should be something for every taste, from plain and simple to a little more sporty and eye-catching.

Colourful Hours with Junghans

Junghans is celebrating the 100th Bauhaus anniversary this year in a proper way. Not surprising, since hardly any school or style has influenced the Junghans models and their design as much as the Bauhaus. And, of course – how could it be otherwise – is celebrated with a special, limited edition watch. The Junghans Form A 100 Years Bauhaus is a tribute to the colour circle of Johannes Itten. As one of the first teachers at the State Bauhaus in Weimar, the Swiss painter, art theorist and art teacher developed a new theory of colour types and introduced it into his lessons. Accordingly, Junghans designed the hourly squares in the 12 colours of the Ittens colour circle.

The new colour type theory is based on the three primary colours blue, yellow and red, from which three new secondary colours emerge through mixing: orange, green and violet. The six tertiary colours are created by mixing a secondary colour with a primary colour. Johannes Itten’s colour circle consists of a total of 12 colours – as if he had already thought of a watch. The colours give the Form A a unique and colourful expression; perfect not only for artists. And not only for Bauhaus-friends and fans.

The Form A 100 Years Bauhaus is a timepiece with its own individual character and highest recognition value. It is powered by an automatic calibre, the J800.2. It shows hours, minutes and seconds via central hands and the date in a window at three o’clock. It also provides a power reserve of 38 hours. Since Junghans has equipped the Form A with a tinted mineral glass back, the owner can view the movement.
All this is built into a 39.3 mm stainless steel case. It is water resistant up to 5 bar and is worn on a stainless steel Milanaise bracelet.

Of course, Junghans delivers this special model in a special box, which picks up the Bauhaus theme again and frames each watch nicely.
The Form A 100 Years Bauhaus is limited to 1000 pieces and costs € 870.

Piaget Presents New Polo Versions at the SIHH 2019

The elegant Piaget Polo has represented the sporty and casual side of Piaget Manufacture since 1979, when the collection was first launched. This year’s Piaget Polo models capture the essence of the Maison in 2019, injecting the collection’s recurring vitality with a pop of colour and a dash of sparkle.

In 2016, the Piaget Polo debuted a refreshed look that updated its hallmark design for the new millenium. The slender proportions remained, but with a larger case size and a bezel that blended oblong and round shapes for an exuberant celebration of Piaget’s signature aesthetic. The classic faceted dauphine hands embraced a friendlier approach, trading sharp angles for softer curves. The bold horizontal dial and case godroons transitioned into dial guillochage that offered subtle texture without overpowering it.
Following the popularity of the steel launch models and the acclaimed 2018 introduction of gold to the new Piaget Polo, the 2019 models confidently move the collection into other areas of the Maison’s expertise – the use of colour and gem-setting.

The steel 42 mm Piaget Polo comes dressed in verdant hues, with a green dial that changes in tone and intensity depending on the angle of light that hits the guilloché surface. A dark green alligator leather strap completes the tone-on-tone look.

A second 42 mm model, this time in red gold, comes in two diamond-set versions. The first features a simple halo of brilliant-cut diamonds on the emblematic bezel, whilst the second is unrestrainedly spirited with a fully paved dial and bezel. These models come with two alligator straps for maximum versatility; a sober blue strap sets off the sparkle of diamonds while a deep gament strap emphasises the warmth of the red-gold case.

The new Piaget Polo models of 2019 are driven by the automatic calibre 1110P of Manufacture Piaget, ensuring a high level of timekeeping performance designed for our modern times. It works at a frequency of 4 Hz and provides a power reserve of approximately 50 hours.
All new Piaget Polo watches show hours, minutes, seconds, as well as a date at 6 o’clock.

The green model is limited to 500 pieces.

Watch Out for the New Richtenburg Diamond Line

This spring, Richtenburg presents a new collection for the ladies, which offers a lot. As always, the watch manufacturer has devoted itself to its new creations with a great deal of attention to detail. Each of the four models of the Diamond Line is offered in various versions – in stainless steel or with PVD coating and with different colored dials.

The Belana is a ladies‘ watch with a classic style. Richtenburg has given it a modern look with a large second and lance-shaped hands. In order to provide sufficient space for the huge subdial, Richtenburg has placed the Roman numerals only in the upper half of the dial and the numeral at twelve o’clock was replaced by a diamond.
Richtenburg provides six different versions of the Belana, including two trendy bi-coloured versions; with a light or dark dial and matching ceramic inlays in the bracelet.
The case with the elegantly integrated lugs has a diameter of 36 mm and is water resistant to 5 atm.

The Richtenburg Gesa is a simple three-hand watch with a date window. The dial is dominated by the applied Roman numerals and a red seconds hand. A diamond sits at twelve o’clock. In order to guarantee easy readability, Richtenburg has equipped the hands with luminous material.
The Gesa comes in a case with a diameter of 36 mm and a water resistance of 5 atm.
Richtenburg offers five different versions of the Gesa; all equipped with a leather strap, elegant and extremely versatile.

The Richtenburg Innessa is a model for the more unusual taste. This watch also displays hours, minutes, seconds and a date at six o’clock. The right  side of the dial features four diamond hour-markers and the large company logo, while the rest of the dial is dominated by a stylized tiger head with piercing red eyes.
The Innessa has a diameter of 36 mm. You can choose between a stainless steel version with gold or pink gold coating and two bi-colour models.

The last model of the Richtenburg Diamond Line is the slim Vivana. This watch is for the more playful among us. It comes with stars and a glittering crescent moon on the dial, which together with the leather straps form a colorful unit. The Vivana also features a diamond at the twelve o’clock position.
The small case measures only 28 mm in diameter. Richtenburg offers six different versions of this wristwatch.

All models of the Richtenburg Diamond Line are powered by a Swiss quartz movement.

With this new collection Richtenburg has combined the best of all worlds. The Swiss movement is running smooth and reliable, while the watches remain affordable and meet every taste due to the multitude of variants offered.

Breitling Commemorates Notable Airlines with New Editions

Watch manufacturer Breitling played an important role in the golden era of aviation, helping crews track the full range of calculations related to navigation. To commemorate the most emblematic airlines of that time, the brand has now created a capsule collection of Navitimer 1 Airline Editions. The collection is being launched with the Navitimer 1 B01 Chronograph 43 Swissair Edition, which will be followed by timepieces celebrating other important airlines.

Breitling’s first capsule collection captures the cool and evocative style of the 1960s and 1970s. The Navitimer 1 Airline Editions pay an affectionate tribute to the pioneers of civil aviation and celebrate the most emblematic airlines of the era. Thanks to them, the world suddenly became smaller as the dream of flying was no longer limited to a privileged elite. Breitling played a key role in the emergence of commercial flight, since its onboard chronographs became standard equipment; first in propeller-driven planes and later in the jets produced by the world’s leading aircraft manufacturers.

All models of the Navitimer 1 B01 Chronograph 43 Swissair Edition feature a bi-directional rotating bezel fitted with the famous circular slide rule, which serves to perform the entire range of calculations relating to airborne navigation. Their distinctive straight hands give the watches a dynamic, contemporary interpretation of a classic look. The dial itself is black with silver subdials; indices as well as hour and minute hands come with Super-LumiNova to ensure best legibility even in the dark. The red highlights on the dial are a hommage to Swiss Air and the transparent case back bears a printed Swissair logo.
The dial is protected by a convex, double anti-reflective sapphire crystal.

All Navitimer 1 B01 Chronograph Airline Edition watches are powered by the Breitling Manufacture Caliber 01. The in-house mechanical chronograph movement features both remarkable precision and a power reserve of approximately 70 hours. It works at a frequency of 4 Hz.
The movement is housed in a 43-mm-stainless steel case which is water resistant up to 3 bar. It is fitted with a vintage-inspired black leather strap or a stainless-steel mesh bracelet.

This first Breitling capsule collection will be available from April 2019 at Breitling boutiques and official retailers for a limited period of time.
