The watch of Castle’s Kate Beckett: The Omega Speedmaster

1000.5x1In case you are a fan of the ABC-Show „Castle“ you might have wondered, which watch it is, that Detective Kate Beckett is wearing. It is a Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional 42mm. It is the watch of her father and it is of nostalgic value to her.

Having been a part of all six lunar missions, the legendary Speedmaster is an impressive representation of the brand’s adventurous pioneering spirit. This watch was worn during the first American spacewalk and was the first watch worn by an astronaut walking on the moon during the Apollo 11 mission.
This Omega Speedmaster Professional „Moonwatch“ features a black dial covered by a hesalite crystal and graced by a small seconds sub-dial, 30-minute recorder and 12-hour recorder along with a central chronograph hand. The black bezel, with its tachymetric scale, is mounted on a 42 mm stainless steel case and presented on a black leather strap.

admin-ajax1At the heart of this chronograph is Omega’s mechanical calibre 1861, the famous manual-winding movement that was worn on the moon. It comes with a rhodium-plated finish and a power-reserve of 48 hours. The Moonwatch is also water resistant up to 50 metres.

Clearly, the Omega Speedmaster Professional „Moonwatch“ is a legendary piece. Its calibre has proven its worth and reliability under the hardest circumstances possible, which are unlikely to happen here on earth. It is made to last and comes with an extraordinary history. That it appears in a popular TV-Show therefore becomes a minor matter. But a nice one, we have to admit.

The Radiomir 1940 10 Days GMT Automatic Oro Rosso 45 mm is an exclusive Special Edition where the beauty and simplicity of the case is combined with the P.2003/10 in-house movement.
The case of the watch is immediately recognisable by its lines of exemplary simplicity, a testimony to the purity of Italian design of the 1930s and 1940s, is made of red gold, and is 45 mm in diameter.

The structure of the dial is the classic sandwich, invented by Panerai to provide the maximum visibility and legibility of its indications even in very low light conditions: two superimposed discs contain the luminous material which shines through the holes made in the upper disc, which correspond to the dial markings.
The brown dial is sun-brushed and showes the date at 3 o’clock, the 24-hour-indicator at 8 o’clock and a linear power reserve indicator at 6 o’clock. It is protected by a sapphire crystal formed of corundrum.

With a diameter of 31 mm and three spring barrels which give the watch a power reserve of ten days, the movement has 25 jewels and a balance spring which makes 28,800 vibrations per hour. The main functions are hours, minutes and small seconds, date and linear indication of the remaining power reserve.
The back of the watch is made from see-through sapphire crystal so the amazing movement can be observed while working.

The Radiomir 1940 10 Days Automatic is supplied with a brown alligator strap. The case is water-resistant to 5 bar – a depth of about 50 metres.

Tudor Heritage Black Bay

The Tudor Heritage Black Bay derives its overall lines and its domed crystal from the brand’s first divers‘ watch, the Submariner launched in 1954. It also ownes its ancestors domed dial. It’s winding crown is a nod to the model presented in 1958. The characteristic angular Hands of the Heritage Black Bay which are known as „snowflakes“, were seen from 1969 to the early 1980s. And now there’s a new version. The Heritage Black Bay was originally released in red, then in blue and now it is available in black.

This dive watch was released for the fist time in 2012, in 2013 it won the Grand Prix d-Horlogerie de Genève in 2013. This model excites because with its design it’s back to the roots. The steel case is 41 mm in diameter with a polished and satin finish. The steel bezel is unidirectional rotatable and matt black, matt blue or matt burgundy red with silver printing. The screw-down crown, also known as „Big Crown“ is engraved with the tudor rose and it’s colour matches the one of the bezel.

The Tudor Heritage Black Bay is powered by a self-winding mechanical movement, the Tudor calibre 2824. This calibre provides a power reserve of approximately 38 hours.

The Tudor Heritage Black Bay comes with a steel bracelet or an aged leather strap. Additionally there is a fabric strap available. And every watch from this collection is waterproof up to 200 metres. It’s a diver’s watch after all.
