The Lattice: Shinola salutes Oscar de la Renta

Shinola created his new watch, The Lattice, in partnership with designer Oscar de La Renta. The hand-assembled 36mm women’s watch was inspired by de la Renta’s American-made jewelery collection, and embraces the embellished style that is signature to the designer’s work.

Features include watches_oscardelarenta_black_f_243x243polished stainless steel case, inset with 68 VS, full-cut diamonds, black, red or blue alligator strap, a faceted sapphire crystal, white mother-of-pearl dial, signature mosaico crown and Detroit-built Argonite 751 quartz movement. The components of the hand-assembled movement are Swiss-made.

The Lattice comes packed with a book, which complements the timepiece and offers an in-depth look ath Oscar de la Renta and his work.

Chrono Diamond – my new beloved

Ariadne_rosegold_IP_front AusschnittWhat comes first to your mind when you hear the names Ariadne, Leandra and Lenya? Most definitely you think these are the names of the ex-girlfriends of Lothar Matthäus the famous german soccer player

When I hear these names I think of diamonds, design, elegance and high-class workmanship. My beloved watches from Chrono Diamond!

They are not quite a steal. So I was really thinking: should I spend so much money for a watch? But when I saw that a famous online shopping portal was offering the watches for 70% under the retail price I did not think twice and ordered Ariadne (who should become my new beloved very soon).

Since I like earthy tones and warm colors I decided to order Ariadne Rosegold IP. The watch case has a warm rose gold color. The real leather watch strap has a reddish brown color. It goes perfectly together.

Diamonds are a girl’s best friend! The designers of Chrono Diamond obviously know that! Many sparkling zirconia and even two real diamonds can be found on the dial. The watch case is made of gilded stainless steel. Ariadne has a really nice size. The watch is not too small but also not too big. The quartz movement is made in Swiss. Unfortunately, 2999 other girls can have Ariadne too. The watch is limited to 3000 pieces. But I can cope with that.

I really love my new watch and I’m sure we’ll spend a long and happy time together. And hey …. Lothar Matthäus. Maybe you should give your next girl friend a Chrono Diamond watch as a present – I’m sure this will make her stay longer 🙂

Test report Richtenburg Nightflight – Diamonds are a girl’s best friend

nightflight1For our taste there can’t be enough sparkling stones on a piece of jewelry. That’s why we couldn’t wait for the Richtenburg Nightflight to arrive. For quite a time we are having an eye on this noble watch. I’d only seen pictures of it but I instantly knew: I have to have this watch! After only a couple of days the watch arrived at our house. I love the design of Richtenburg’s Nightflight. Less is usually more. The design of the dial is simple and clear. No numbers no outsized date/month displays. Nothing distracts from the extraordinary beauty of the sparkling zircons that are arranged around the dial, on the lunette. The real leather wristband is of good workmanship and it feels very soft and comfortable on the wrist. Behind hardened mineral glass works the automatic watch movement Richtenburg Kaliber RK226 with 20 Stones. This movement has proved to be very precise and reliable. The Richtenburg Nightflight is waterproof to 10 bar – Yay! I’ll definitely wear this watch to my next pool party!

Hindenberg Retrograde – i like retro!

I admit! I’m not only a fashion victim but also a victim of the retro-wave. I’m attracted to everything that screams vintage and retro. Therefore, it’s not surprising that I’m also very attracted to the new Hindenberg Retrograde.

The Hindenberg Retrograde is retro in two different aspects. The design is doubtlessly retro. The oversized numbers on the dial, the dark brown real leather wristband, the matted stainless steel – design elements that take me back to bygone times.

But there is also another reason why the Hindenberg Retrograde is so retro – retrograde more specifically. Retrograde means anti-clockwise. Of course the Hindenburg Retrograde doesn’t let the time run backwards but it uses a  time-display feature that was very popular in former times. Both second hands are so to say marching to a different tune. After the first second hand counted the first 30 seconds backwards it is set back 0 and then the other second hand starts to count the next 30 seconds.

This feature was already used in the year 1650 by a watchmaker called Hans Buschman who used it for his pocket watches.

I really like that this feature is still used.

Nixon: stylish retro look from Cali

PLAYER_MATT_BLK_MATTE_GNMTL
16 years ago, Andy Laats and Chad DiNenna founded a company that quickly became a favorite among fans of retro design and style conscious: Nixon. The reason for the formation of the company was, as it often is, a personal one: For a long time, DiNenna had been looking for a watch meeting his preferences, but couldn’t find any.

Laats, a former product manager for Burton snowboards, was preparing for his MBA title at Stanford when he met DiNenna. Together, they rustled up nearly a million US dollars for their newly-founded company. The first catalog was published in 1997 and featured six watches.

In 2006, Billabong International (a surfer brand) bought Nixon for approximately 55 million US dollars. Six years later, Nixon became an independent company again, with not quite half of the stock still held by Billabong. Its current market value is about 464 million US dollars.

Nixon offers a huge variety of analog and digital watches, both for men and women.

Presented: Mathis Montabon´s Rectiligne brown

MM-11-braunToday we have for you the test of a very particular watch – the Mathis Montabon´s Rectiligne brown! This noble friend for the demanding man is characterized by its extreme elegance. This watch is particularly suitable for the office and for special occasions, but also for leisure and sport!

Package and first impression
When the watch reached us it was packed in a thick carton. We find the Rectiligne brown in a black gift box. In the box near the watch there are the plastic guarantee and the complete and easy to understand manual of instructions. This package gives an elegant and expensive aspect to the watch and leaves no doubt about its quality!

Quality and processing
A very complicated and highly treated automatic movement drives the Mathis Montabon´s Rectiligne brown. We were also able to open the box for locating quality defects. But also from the outside you can not see anything like this. We have not found no scratches or poor workmanship or materials. Even in this case is true, the overall impression that the brown Rectiligne gives.

Function and everyday use
Based on our tests, also in this case the Mathis can convince of its best quality. Tests were not a problem for this wonderful watch that has shown great qualities. For example, the scratch resistance of the glass (it is not impossible to have a scratch on the glass, but it is very difficult!), and the extremely high accuracy, that is better compared to many cheap quartz watches.

Conclusion
We are very impressed with the test results of Mathis Montabon´s Rectiligne brown. So impressed that we repeated the test more times, because we could not believe the results obtained! One recommendation is therefore granted and we like to talk about this. This watch is absolutely great for any lover of watches-collector but it is also suitable for the „Eight – the average consumer“.

Test: Richtenburg Nordkapp

nordkap1

Today we will test the Richtenburg Nordkapp for you. A noble watch for men by Richtenburg.

First impression:
The new Richtenburg was delivered well packed in a fancy box already few days after order  along with the warranty card and instruction manual. Already the first look discloses:The Nordkapp is a quite unique watch. The bracelet and the watchcase give the impression of high-quality. The robust bracelet, which is made of scratch-proof stainless steel, feels very comfortable on the wrist.

Design:
The watchcase of stainless-steel has a convenient, masculin size with a diameter of 42 mm. In our opinion its display is very felicitous regarding functionality and design. The displays for the date, day and month as well as the 24 hours display are combined with the design of the clock face in a very hormonious way. The Nordkapp is available in six colour variations – with stainless-steel bracelet or leather strap.

Procedure:
The Richtenburg Kaliber RK008 automatic movement with 20 stones works behind a scratch-resistant watch glass. It is easy to set the watch by the protected crown. The watch is protected against water pressure up to 100 meters. Above all, the test exemplar catched our eyes with its excellent time accuracy.

Result:
The high-quality manufacture and the dependable movement satisfied us. The price for the Richtenburg Nordkapp is 1.500 EUR. We can get a high-quality watch joining functionality and design for it.

TRIWA – Sassy watch maker from Sweden

„TRIWA rocks“ – that’s what I thought when I saw TRIWA’s new watch collection for the first time. Sassy, colorful and unconventional. It’s not surprising that they got the prestigious Swedish fashion award „Guldknappen“ in 2011. Their success-story started in the year 2006. Bored by the typical, muted colors of Scandinavian fashion Ludvig Scheja and Harald Wachtmeister – the two founders of TRIWA – wanted to add a flashy contrast color to the outfits. In the very same year they introduced their first watch that was completely orange onto the market and called it „The orange revolution“. The customers reacted euphorically and were enthusiastic of the idea to make their outfit more exciting by wearing a colorful watch. „TRIWA is a fashion accessory – an affordable way to make your outfit more exciting. Besides that it tells you the time“, said Ludvig Scheja. „We do not want to replace real luxury watches. We like the irony to break a classical look with unconventional materials like plastic, rubber und jazzy colors“.

When is the iWatch finally coming?

Appel’s next big thing will be a wristwatch. According to rumors Apple will introduce its smart watch onto the market very soon. Wearable computing is trendy and to date the market is not glutted. Some smartwatches were recently introduced onto the market for example the successful kick starter project „Pepple“. Unfortunately, those smart watches are still not very well-engineered. Now Apple has the possibility to bring the first smartwatch onto the market that is suitable for the mass. This turned out well with the Mp3-player, smartphone and tablet, too. The voice command „Siri“ would simplify the handling quit a lot and would therefore be a big advantage of the iWatch. With the matching apps and  an app store like iTunes the iWatch could easily outclass all the other smart watches.

Happy Birthday Swatch! The good mood watch celebrates its 30th birtday

30 years ago, the Swiss watch manufacturer Swatch published his first Swatch watch. Who could foresee the unbelivable story of success of the colorful watches? They were revolutionary back in the days and still are. After three decades of innovation, and playful provocation Swatch has every reason to celebrate. Swatch birthday celebrations starts with the release of a new watch model, the Swatch CELEBRATE. A golden New Gent with transparent watch case and skeletonized dial. All years from 1983 to 2013 are printed in golden numbers on a wide silver ring. Every year brings back memories of legendary Swatch watches, like the POP, Scuba 200, Heavy-Metal Irony, the colorful Gent or the High-Tech-Touch – and of course the fabulous creations of popular artists, athletes and fashion designers. And not to forget the first own Swatch watch.
